Research Integrity and Consultation Program
The Research Integrity and Consultation Program provides three essential services to the research community at Virginia Tech:
Responsible Conduct of Research Training
The program provides a comprehensive program of training experiences and learning opportunities to infuse ethics and regulatory knowledge across the university. Responsible conduct of research training offers researchers the opportunity to earn mandatory in-person training required by specific federal sponsors.
Research Integrity
At Virginia Tech, researchers typically live up to the university’s high standards for ethical research and innovation. Sometimes, however, the pressures associated with conducting research in an academic environment may lead to research misconduct. When allegations of research misconduct arise, the director of the program serves as the university’s research integrity officer and investigates the misconduct allegations.
Research Ethics Consultation
The research ethics consultation service helps investigators address ethical issues throughout the research process. Consultations are separate and distinct from the routine guidance that the program provides to researchers. In general, consultations involve novel research issues that include complex ethical considerations.
