Privacy and Research Data Protection Program
Working alongside the Virginia Tech’s Institutional Review Board to protect participants - the Privacy and Research Data Protection Program assists Virginia Tech’s researchers with guidance needed to keep data secure and compliant with university, state, and federal regulations.
The program coordinates with campus stakeholders to develop and manage a process to support Virginia Tech investigators in addressing and meeting the data protection requirements of research activities.
The recent regulatory emphasis on privacy, coupled with research sponsors’ increased requirements for data sharing, can present challenges for researchers. Researchers and universities must be agile in their responses to these changes. The program is available to provide support and guidance to Virginia Tech investigators as they navigate data management plans, research data security, best practices for data sharing, and general stewardship of research data.
