Six units play an integral role in driving day-to-day activities throughout the Office of Research and Innovation and the research enterprise at Virginia Tech.
These units provide research faculty and administrative personnel support, communicate successes and guidance, and assist in increasing morale. These core teams play a critical role in empowering the people that make up Research and Innovation at Virginia Tech.
Communications and Marketing
The Office of Research and Innovation's marketing and communications team is poised to help constituents elevate the Virginia Tech brand by promoting research milestones, successes, and discoveries. Additionally, the team helps the Office of Research and Innovation business and operations to effectively communicate policies, training, guidance, and more to the Virginia Tech research community and beyond. Both efforts work to bolster the university's local, regional, national and international research reputation.

Additionally, the team works closely with the Office of Research and Innovation business and operations, including the Office of Sponsored Programs, the Division of Scholarly Integrity and Research Compliance, and the Office of Laboratory Animal Resources, to develop software requirements, redesign and improve processes, and develop, purchase, implement and integrate electronic research administration solutions in alignment with their strategic goals.
The Information Technology team provides a full concierge-style service to the Office of Research’s business and operations units including critical data analysis, reporting, quality control, outreach, hosting, and maintenance. The team also supports upgrades to electronic research infrastructure services that are provided to the broader research community.
The Finance office creates funding models that align with objectives of the Office of Research and Innovation’s research strategies. The finance team duties include developing a multi-year budget planning process for operational units and administering and managing financial policies and procedures that are consistent and efficient across a growing research enterprise.
