In this grant writing overview session, participants will learn about resources and strategies for how to find and prepare grant proposals. Topics to be covered will include how to analyze funding agencies and solicitations along with foundational knowledge of grant planning to prepare postdocs for their future careers in a variety of research occupations. Resources will be shared for various postdoc fellowship opportunities, application requirements, and funding timelines.

Lisa R. Nielsen portrait.

Dr. Lisa R. Nielsen is the postdoc office director and a grant writer at Purdue University where she uses the combination of her two positions to share her strategies for writing effective grants with postdocs.

Before coming to Purdue, Lisa worked in sales and technical support for a laboratory equipment manufacturer, where she learned how to apply persuasion to research proposals. Originally a materials scientist, Lisa now works with postdocs from all over the Purdue campus, including life sciences, agriculture, engineering, social sciences, and technology.

Her interests are in training postdocs in grant writing with both hands-on practice and knowledge of strategies for guided writing.
