Technology Transfer and Commercialization Careers Panel

Technology transfer and technology commercialization efforts rely on knowledgeable staff at universities to perform assessments of newly disclosed inventions. The ability of Ph.D.-trained scientists to research subject matter within a specific target space, synthesize this available information, and come to a decision on the potential impact of a new technology seeking to operate in the space is critical to this successful review of new technologies, recommending whether institutions should pursue intellectual property protections for new technologies, and licensing the technologies to suitable commercial partners.

In this panel, Ph.D.-trained licensing officers working at Virginia Tech will discuss their personal career paths and share a bit about their work within LICENSE: Center for Tech Commercialization. In addition, Mark Mondry, director of LAUNCH: Center for New Ventures will share his past experience working as a patent attorney and his more recent experience helping start-ups get started.

Come to learn more about careers in the expanding area of technology commercialization and licensing at universities.
