Office of Export and Secure Research Compliance
The Office of Export and Secure Research Compliance works with university departments to ensure compliance with regulations promulgated by U.S. government agencies, including but not limited to the Department of State, Department of Commerce, and the Department of the Treasury.
If an assessment determines that an activity is subject to these regulations, the Office of Export and Secure Research Compliance will assist the university department in obtaining any necessary licenses or government approvals and setting up security measures and protocols to ensure compliance.
The office manages compliance programs at the university for export control and sanctions, research security, industrial security and associated training requirements.
Office personnel review areas such as:
- Sponsored research
- Foreign Persons
- International travel
- International shipping
- Procurement
- Foreign influence
- Numerous other areas of international collaboration or controlled technology access
The Office of Export and Secure Research Compliance supports Virginia Tech’s commitment to comply with U.S. laws and regulations applicable to export controls, sanctions, and research security pursuant to University Policy 13045.
