Virginia Tech Research Development Training Opportunities

Research Development Seminar Series
During the academic year, this monthly series covers critical topics in research development including sponsor priorities, best practices for prestigious programs, and helpful campus resources.
Visit the research and innovation events page for details on upcoming seminars.
Proposal Development Institute
For new faculty (or faculty new to seeking extramural funding), a two-day intensive workshop, which covers the life cycle of a proposal from idea generation to understanding reviews, is complemented by structured mentoring, networking opportunities, and special sessions for deep dives on individual topics.
National Institutes of Health R01 Writing Workshop
Over five sessions, this workshop leads participants through the process of crafting a competitive R01 proposal to the National Institutes of Health. Iterative writing and reviewing assignments, incorporating feedback from senior faculty mentors as well as peers, teaches participants to hone their own arguments and understand the reviewer's perspective.
External Training Resources and Programs
To expand our capacity to support faculty research development, the Office of Research and Innovation has partnered with external organizations to provide access to on-demand resources and training.
Hanover Research
Hanover's Grants Learning Center offers self-paced training including skillbuilding on topics like concept development and resubmission, and tailored tutorials on the National Science Foundation CAREER and National Institutes of Health R-series grants. For an access code, email Eleanor Nelsen.
Their extensive webinar series is also available to Virginia Tech users. The Office of Research Development has collected the ones that may be of particular interest.
You can also register to receive their weekly Grants Alert emails and monthly webinar invitations.
