Animal Resources and Care Division

The Animal Resources and Care Division provides resources and expertise to support scientifically sound animal research and teaching using healthy animals in the appropriate environment.

The division promotes and ensures humane animal care and use by applying current veterinary standards and animal welfare practices that meet or exceed regulatory requirements.

Virginia Tech maintains the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare approved Public Health Service Animal Welfare Assurance: #D16-00131; Legacy #A3208-01 and USDA registration: #52-R-0012.

Virginia Tech's Animal Care and Use program follows the standards of the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and the Public Health Service Policy for all animals, the Animal Welfare Act and Regulations for covered species, and the Guide for the Care and Use of Agricultural Animals in Research and Teaching for agricultural animals used in agricultural research, teaching, and biomedical research as applicable.

The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Science, and Fralin Biomedical Research Institute are accredited by Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, International.
