Responsibilities
Barbara DeCausey is the senior director of Integrity and Human Research, supporting the Human Research Protection Program, Privacy and Research Data Protection Program, Research Conflict of Interest Program, and Research Integrity and Consultation Program.
Background
DeCausey joined Virginia Tech in 2019 as the director of the Human Research Protection Program. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, she served in several roles at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, including deputy chief for the Clinical Research Branch which manages the international Tuberculosis Trials Consortium, director of the Human Research Protection Office, and an epidemiologist in the HIV Incidence and Case Surveillance Branch. She has more than 15 years of experience in research ethics and public health.
Education
She holds a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and master’s degrees in both public health and business administration from Walden University.
