Lynn Byrd serves as the acting director of human resources for the Office of Research and Innovation, which includes the research institutes, by supporting workforce development, employee engagement and productivity, employee relations, and compensation management. She provides counsel on multiple initiatives, maximizing all human resource programs and cycles, leveraging existing capabilities across the university, and recommending solutions to complex employee relations related issues. Byrd provides administrative support for university-wide research faculty initiatives.
Byrd joined Virginia Tech in 2002, starting as a human resources coordinator, working her way up to director of talent management for the former Virginia Bioinformatics Institute. In 2015, she joined Research and Innovation as human resources project manager and in 2020 she was promoted to senior human resources manager. Prior to her roles at Virginia Tech, Byrd worked for industry as a technical recruiter.
Byrd holds a bachelor of science from Virginia Tech and master of business administration from Averett University.
