LabConnect General Membership

General membership is open to Virginia Tech staff, faculty members, postdoctoral associates, research faculty, wage employees, graduate students, and undergraduate students working in a research laboratory or teaching environment.

Join the LabConnect listserv to learn more about:

  • expertise in various methodologies
  • shared instrumentation
  • lab supplies and chemicals for last-minute emergencies
  • upcoming events and programs

LabConnect Listserv Guidelines

If your email to the LabConnect listserv does not meet the guidelines, it will be returned with an explanation of why it was declined. You are welcome to edit the email and resubmit it to the listserv.

Do use the listserv to:

  • Request emergency supplies/chemicals 
  • Inquiry about available equipment on campus 
  • Gather suggestions on suppliers of specialized services 
  • Seek out a subject matter expert 
  • Post items no longer needed by your lab 
  • Share information that would be of interest to the general membership (e.g., topical non- departmental seminars, university wide seminars, events) 

Do not use the listserv for:

  • Job postings (internal or external to Virginia Tech) 
  • Advertisements for commercial services or vendors 

Always include a professional signature including the following:

  • First/last name 
  • Role at Virginia Tech (grad student, staff, post-doc, principal investigator) 
  • Department/lab/location 
  • Contact information (email address, phone)

  • Reply only to the sender or the individual requestor; do not reply all
