Postdoc Academy: Succeeding as a Postdoc
The Postdoc Academy's Succeeding as a Postdoc course covers a variety of topics over 6 weeks of online, self-paced material:
- Defining the role of a postdoc
- Communicating and setting expectations
- Building an actionable career plan
- Developing resilience
- Working effectively in an intercultural environment
Virginia Tech postdocs have several ways to engage with the Postdoc Academy content.
We will also be hosting an information session and kick-off event for postdocs to learn more about the Postdoc Academy, Succeeding as a Postdoc, and our planned Virginia-wide learning community of postdocs (PALS) who will be meeting over Zoom this spring with the goal of building their networks and discussing topics covered in the online course in more detail.

The edX course is a free, 6-week asynchronous means of interacting with the material. It features discussion boards and online activities help with engaging with the Succeeding as a Postdoc content.
Succeeding as a Postdoc Online Course

This online discussion group will meet weekly on Mondays, 12 - 1 p.m., from Mar. 25 through May 6 and build off the content from the online edX course. It will be open to postdoctoral associates from across the Commonwealth of Virginia and provide a means to network as well as learn about resources available at postdocs' home institutions. Sessions will be facilitated by representatives from Virginia Tech, the University of Virginia, and Virginia Commonwealth University.
