Using Scival for Research Intelligence and Impact

Via Virginia Tech's Research Impact and Intelligence Department, all colleges, departments, and select groups and institutes have been curated in Elsevier's Scival based on a university census. 

SciVal is Elsevier’s research intelligence platform, built on the Scopus database, that helps universities, research institutes, and individual scholars analyze research performance, benchmark against peers, identify strategic opportunities, and demonstrate research impact. It provides access to comprehensive publication, citation, collaboration, and research trend data covering institutions, researchers, countries, and disciplines worldwide. The system includes reporting and visualization tools that simplify the communication of research performance and impact to leadership, funders, accreditation bodies, and external stakeholders.

Beyond traditional publication and citation counts, SciVal includes a broad range of impact indicators, such as highly cited publications, collaboration measures, policy impact metrics, and other indicators of research influence.

This workshop will introduce participants to these capabilities and demonstrate practical applications for research planning, evaluation, and strategic decision-making.

This session will be offiered live via Zoom and will be recorded. Attendance during the live session is encouraged to allow greater interaction with the instructor, but all who register will receive a link to the recording to view later if unable to attend.

Connie Stovall and her team offer customized support to individual scholars, researchers, administrators, units, departments, and colleges. The office of Research Impact and Intelligence collects, processes, and analyzes research, policy, patent, and extramural funding data and deliver insights to support research growth and impact.  They collaborate with The Office of Research and Innovation, Innovation and Partnerships, the Office of Analytics & Institutional Effectiveness, and others.
