Updated: Dec. 21, 2020
All Teaching and Research Animal Care Support Services (TRACCS) and Laboratory Animal Resources / Animal Resources and Care Division (LAR/ARCD) managed animal facilities in Blacksburg and Roanoke are operational, but with limited staff. Daily animal husbandry procedures that include the provision of feed and water, cage changing and sanitation, and animal observation for health and welfare concerns are provided by TRACSS personnel in College of Veterinary Medicine facilities and LAR/ARCD personnel in the LS1, ILSB, and Fralin Biomedical Research Institute facilities. Any COVID-19 related disruption to essential supply lines or reduction in staffing resources may require modifications to normal practices or procedures. Facility operational changes, if necessary, will be communicated locally.
No, current staffing resources cannot accommodate additional work responsibilities conducted by research personnel such as breeding colony management or othe IACUC approved protocol procedures.
