Virginia Tech celebrates the late Nikki Giovanni through an immersive exhibit at the Center for the Arts. The exhibit uses video projection of graphics and photos with an original music score to highlight six of Giovanni's poems read by Giovanni herself. This exhibit will move to the Torpedo Factory Art Center in 2026. Poetry and Readings: Nikki Giovanni Poetic Arrangement: Brittney S. Harris and Charles Nichols Music: Charles Nichols Embodied Movement: Brittney S. Harris Motion Capture: Trevor Finney and Alice Macanga Motion Graphics and Graphic Design: Meaghan Dee, Trevor Finney, Demetrya Dye, and Lexy Altieri Project Advisor: Gena E. Chandler, PhD Project Management: Meaghan Dee ICAT Technical Support: Gustavo Araoz, David Franusich, Brandon Hale, and Tanner Upthegrove Additional Thanks to Kelsey Hammer, Ella Shaffer, and Morgan Weidling for participating in creative brainstorming sessions. Special thanks to Virginia Fowler for permission, time, and poetry consultation. Golden. Buttery. Delicious. This is Cheesy Nights. Catch the sizzle at Newman Library on December 11–12 & 14–15 at 7:30 p.m. Since 2011, University Libraries has hosted this beloved Virginia Tech tradition. What started 14 years ago with just 267 sandwiches has grown into more than 9,000 gooey, golden grilled cheeses served each semester. It’s become a campus favorite and a comforting source of stress relief during exams.

Using real 3D-scanned butterflies from VT’s digital collections, students designed a breathtaking experience that brings these delicate local creatures to life like never before. Fun From All Ages is a new student-curated exhibit created by Vibeka JensenOyaski, who works in Special Collections and University Archives. Located on the first floor of Newman Library, the display highlights the history of toys, games, and play across generations, inviting visitors to rediscover the joy and nostalgia of childhood. Curated just in time for the holidays, the exhibit will remain on display throughout the season for the campus and community to enjoy.

Video ItemDiscovery Lab prepares students for peer-led research , video
The Discovery Lab opened in the Fall 2025 Semester and provides over 6,000 square feet of technical space dedicated to enabling student-led collaborative research, prototyping, and experimentation. The lab is a space for collaboration, exploration, and experiential learning able to support independent projects, collaborative undergraduate research experiences, industry engagement, workshops, class activities, and course-based undergraduate research experiences.
