Video ItemBeyond the stage with Step Afrika! , video
When world-class artists visit the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, a performance is just one piece of the story. Here we connect people of all ages — students, faculty, families, and community members — with artists in ways that extend far beyond a singular performance. We believe the arts are most powerful when they’re participatory, inspiring, and available to all. That’s why every visiting artist residency at the Center for the Arts includes meaningful interactions across campus and within our community — fostering creativity, dialogue, and connection that resonate long after the final bow. During a three-day residency in Blacksburg, Step Afrika! engaged with people of all ages across campus and throughout the New River Valley, demonstrating how the arts can connect, inspire, and open doors far beyond the stage. Watch to see how these visiting artists help build connection, spark curiosity, and embody Virginia Tech’s spirit of Ut Prosim — that I may serve.

Article ItemVMCVM Pet Spotlight: Velcro , article
Meet Velcro, the 14-year-old, 12-pound (i.e. "big-boned") black cat whose mom is Katherine Harshman, LVT and development associate / "office extrovert" in Advancement. Velcro thinks his name is cool but will more readily answer to "CAT!" and considers a dog in the home his sister and best friend. Velcro once hid from everyone in a closet for a day and a half at his grandparents' house and once survived a ride in a dryer. You might not want to leave any paper or cardboard items you value near him, or they will end up as confetti. That may have something to do with how unhappy Velcro is at some of the food portions he gets from his mom. That said, Velcro loves to snuggle with her, and an occasional hit of catnip.
