Cristen Jandreau

Director, Conflict of Interest Program

Cristen Jandreau serves as the Director of the Conflict of Interest (COI) Program and the University COI Officer.  

A Hokie, Cristen returned to Virginia Tech from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she focused on developing the Conflict of Interest Program and implemented other research integrity initiatives. Cristen has more than 10 years of experience as a molecular biologist in fields ranging from preclinical research to epidemiology.

She holds a bachelor's degree in biology from James Madison University and earned her Ph.D. in biomedical and veterinary sciences from Virginia Tech.

Quinn Steen

Quinn Steen

 COI Compliance Specialist

Quinn Steen has over 10 years of experience in compliance and regulatory affairs. He joined Virginia Tech in 2011 and moved to the Conflict of Interest program in 2013 where he now administers programs that detect, evaluate, and manage conflicts of interest.

Before working in academia, Steen worked for two prominent local law firms where he assisted with trial preparation and case management. He also helped local entrepreneurs with business formation and start-up.

He completed undergraduate degrees in communications and criminal justice at Radford University. He then went on to complete both his J.D. and M.B.A. at Campbell University School of Law where he took a special interest in litigation and ethics.

COI Coordinator

Caley Dugan recently joined SIRC as a COI Coordinator. She brings several years of customer service experience and most recently worked in the College of Veterinary Medicine as a clinical laboratory scientist and inventory manager.

Caley has spent the last 10 years participating on research teams both in a student and professional capacity, and has grown her knowledge of proper scientific procedures and protocol composition during this time.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Radford University, and a bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science and a master’s of healthcare administration from the former Jefferson College of Health Sciences, now known as Radford University Carilion.


 Leslie Thornton-O’Brien

Leslie Thornton-O’Brien
COI Administrative Specialist

Leslie Thornton-O’Brien joins the team as the COI Administrative Specialist. With over 15 years of higher education experience, she comes back to Virginia Tech from her most recent position as the Selu Conservancy Coordinator and Public Relations Specialist at Radford University.

Leslie previously worked at Virginia Tech at both ICTAS and Continuing and Professional Education as a Project Manager. During her career in higher education, Leslie has gained experience in project planning, marketing/communications, as well as logistical support while placing special emphasis on developing relationships and supporting administrators, faculty, staff, students and industry professionals.

A Hokie, she earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, and is currently pursuing a master’s in strategic communications from Liberty University.
