More Information

1. Check to see if you have an existing record:

This step is very important! You are asked to search COS for an existing record to avoid the possibility of creating duplicate records. If you have a record there, then you will have one in VTED as well since the COS records originally came from the old VTED database. We have contracted with COS to use their interface to populate both databases. This means you only need to enter your information once in COS to enjoy the benefits of both VTED and COS.

Please note: It can take up to ten days for changes made to your record to appear when your record is viewed through the general search function of COS or VTED. However, your record will be instantly available for you to preview through your COS Workbench. Always work through your Workbench to view any recent updates to your record.

2. Request your COS username and password:

Note: Faculty members that were previously in VTED are also in COS and are considered registered and have been assigned a username and password by COS even if you have never visited COS. If you have a COS record already you should:

  1. Request the Username and Password which has been assigned to you
  2. Enter your COS Workbench and update your record

If you have forgotten your password you may also request that COS send it to you via e-mail, or contact the VT-COS Liaison.

Please note: It can take up to ten days for your new record to appear when viewed through the general search function of COS or VTED. However, it will be instantly available for you to preview through your COS Workbench.

3. Log in to your COS Workbench, complete your record, sign up for free services, and explore your benefits

You will work through your own COS Workbench to update your record and customize the services provided by COS.

Please note: It can take up to ten days for changes made to your record to appear when your record is viewed through the general search function of COS or VTED. However, your record will be instantly available for you to preview through your COS Workbench. Always work through your Workbench to view any recent updates to your record.

When you register with COS you are not only presenting your expertise information to its members, you are also, through VTED, presenting your information to the world. But the benefits don't stop there! Enjoy access to the COS Funding Opportunities database, a customized funding alert service, and access to several important online databases, just to list a few. Complete details are available at COS.
