Student Research Opportunities

Students involved in research can be found all over the Virginia Tech campus. If you are just beginning your search for opportunities to participate in research, the best way to start is by approaching the chairperson and faculty in your department. They will be able to inform you of the research projects that are currently underway at Virginia Tech.

Wage Jobs for research are available in various departments of Virginia Tech. More information could be found at the Financial Aid Web Site.

Graduate Research Opportunities

Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA) are awarded by departments and professors who are engaged in research projects. Research assistantships offer exciting opportunities to participate in ongoing research developments at Virginia Tech. More information is available from the Graduate School.

Graduate Fellowships are listed in the weekly Opportunity Update.

Search for Graduate Research Funding

The Community of Science website has a database that includes research funding for undergraduate and graduate students. This database has postdoctoral opportunities in all disciplines, not just the sciences. (Note: This service is made available to the Virginia Tech community through our subscription w/ COS. If you're logging on from a computer on-campus you should have direct access. If you're off-campus please log in at MyVT.)

Undergraduate Research Examples

Hear from some of the undergraduate student researchers themselves. In these interviews, student researchers talk about how they got started doing research, discuss their specific projects, and reflect on their experiences in the field and lab.
