Starting a University-Level Interdisciplinary Research Center
The Office of the Vice President for Research has administrative oversight responsibility for university-level interdisciplinary research centers only.
College-level and department-level centers also exist at the university and should you wish to establish a center other than a university-level center, please contact the Provost's Office at 231-6122.
If you are considering seeking funding to establish a major university research center or have been successful in securing funding, now need to go about setting up a center, or if you are unsure whether the center that you wish to establish should be a university, college or department-level center, please refer to University Policy 3020 (pdf file). (NOTE: Please check with the Sandra Muse () at 231-9359 before undertaking significant work toward establishment of a new center.)
Centers are similar to departments and colleges within the university in many ways. For example, they hire staff, make purchases, receive and disburse funds, make travel arrangements, etc. The University has policies and procedures governing these activities as they apply to Centers.
