Lockheed Martin University Research Initiatives
Partnerships between universities and Lockheed Martin have for many years brought unique and rewarding combinations of invention, innovation, engineering, and systems integration to bear on problems of national importance. Lockheed Martin is seeking to expand this partnering and its mutual benefits. Virginia Tech, recognized for excellence in areas aligned with Lockheed Martin’s current and future products, is cordially invited to submit ideas for collaboration.
A new initiative has the goal of establishing research activities which: 1) focus on technologies enabling strategic growth; 2) provide principal support for a faculty lead investigator and research team; and 3) aim at results in about two years useful for further product development. A letter from Lockheed Martin announcing this initiative (in PDF format) can be viewed by clicking here.
A summary of the Strategic Technology Threads (a PDF) is available as a guide to the first point. A template for abstract submission (a Word document) is also available, along with instructions and information (in PDF format) on the subsequent process for inviting and selecting formal proposals for funding.
General guidelines for abstract submissions:
- Abstracts from a university should be submitted through a single point of contact. Associate Vice President for Research Rodd Hall will be the contact for Virginia Tech.
- Multiple abstracts from a university are encouraged, but a maximum of five is strongly suggested.
- Each abstract must be text-only, be on the template provided and have a maximum of 750 words.
